It is amazing the amount of raw talent we have in Lee County and the surrounding counties. Come out to the Beattyville Christian Church this Saturday night, November 5th, at 6:00pm and enjoy an Evening of Music Benefit for Hospice Care Plus. This Saturday night will be the 4th annual event and they are only asking for a donation of any amount as you come though the door. 

Don't expect just gospel music because the performance is in church. There will be a wide variety of styles that you may not have expected to hear come out of the Eastern Kentucky Hills. Starting off the evening will be the Hilltop Pickers, this local group plays traditional and gospel bluegrass. Everyone will get a treat out of the second performer, 5 year old Carter Begley, who will astonish you with his skills on the drum set. Following that we will have singers including Lyndsey Overbee, Pine Crest Singers, Sue Davis, and Glenn Baker. Listening to the Spencer family singers will remind you of the movie "Oh Brother Where Art You". These three young boys have excellent harmonies and dad will join in on the second song. There is nothing like listening to classical melodies on a baby grand piano. Mrs. Mary Amburgy and Mrs. Cecile Booth will entrance you with their practiced hands on the ivory keys. Jazz music is up next with Randall Amburgy on trumpet and Mr. McGillis on saxophone.

The director of Hospice Care Plus, Mrs. McGillis, will step in midway though to say a few words about Hospice Care plus and how your donations from the night's Evening of Music event will benefit their programs. All donations are appreciated. 

Courthouse worker, Tommy Hall will start the second half of The Evening of Music by playing the piano and singing, followed by Lee County High School student Walker White on the piano. The Evening of Music is a great place to hear local singer/songwriters such as Phillip Durbin, Sam & Jacquelyn Judd, and Señora Childers. We can't leave out Broadway music, local newspaper editor Chuck Caudill is sure to entertain the audience with one of his favorite songs from Broadway. A coal miner's daughter and huge fan of Loretta Lynn, Joan Campbell will hold the audience in the palm of her hand as she sings a couple of classic country songs. Following her, Erica Murphy will transport you to another world while playing the violin with Mrs. Amburgy accompanying her on the piano. Tommy & Sarah Thorpe performed a guitar duet last year and will be back to play for everyone Saturday night. Finishing up the night will be Joann Flyn & Karen Angel singing and the soulful Avis Thompson will bring down the house. At the end of the evening all performers and singers will be on stage together for a few patriotic songs in honor of Veteran's Day.  

There will be a light reception after the performance and everyone is welcome to stay and fellowship. So, if you are looking for something to do this Saturday night, come to the Evening of Music at the Beattyville Christian Church and enjoy a night full of local talent benefiting a great cause. Evening entertainment will begin at 6:00pm.
