Daniel Boone Backcountry BywayThe Daniel Boone Backcounty Byway is a OHV Recreational route consisting of existing county roads. The concept was adopted by the successful Rubicon Trail in California. This byway system will utilizing primitive county roads to revitalize the tourism industry and incubate economic development in the respective counties. Essentially, Estill, Lee, Powell and Wolfe, are ripe for multiple use recreational tourism and the hundreds of miles of primitive county roads provide a perfect venue for such industry. County roads remain the primary right of way through the beautiful and rugged eastern deciduous forest landscape of the region. The county roads display the geology, flora, and fauna to people of all physical abilities, safely and sustainably.

It's a long loop (98.7 miles) in some of the most remote and scenic territory in the State of Kentucky including the Red River Gorge. Better go prepared! PRO TIP: It is suggested that you begin in Slade, KY and travel West along the route until you intersect the loop. From there, counterclockwise is preferred.
