Located only minutes from the Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge State Park, there are many adventures to experience on your weekend getaway or week-long vacation to the area. You may be familiar with the Gorge area, but have you traveled south on HWY 11 into Beattyville/Lee County, KY? Here are some additional adventures to do.

Rock Climbing

Lee County is home to the Pendergrass Murray and Miller Fork Recreational Preserves. These two areas make up 1,000 acres of land purchased by the Red River Gorge Climber's Coalition. The land is open to the public for recreation. Most popular is rock climbing but there are also great sight seeing opportunities for hikers along these trails. Mountain biking trails are also being constructed. There is also 600 acres of climbing property that has recently opened up to the public. The climbing area is called The Rock Domain and it is located at the Cathedral Domain off HWY 52 W. Go and check it out!

Hunting in the WMA

Wildlife Management Areas are open for hunting and hiking under statewide regulations. The 2,500 acre Ashland WMA in Lee County is almost entirely forested with some extremely rugged, steep terrain and many high cliffs. Good to moderate populations of grouse, squirrel, furbearers, deer, turkey, and songbirds exist on the area.

KY River Watersport Adventures

Beattyville is the birthplace of the Kentucky River where North, South, and Middle Forks of the Kentucky River meet. There are many miles of river to explore for your water recreational adventures. Try one of our paddle trails or bring your motorboat for a full day of fishing and fun on the river.

Horseback Riding

Whisper Valley Trails offers guided horseback riding excursions for the whole family. Choose between 1 hour or 3 hour guided trips though the southern tip of the Red River Gorge. You will ride past multiple waterfalls, cliff faces, overhangs, and a lake! Great experience for beginner or intermediate riders.

Offroad Adventure

There are two offroad adventure parks within 10 miles of Beattyville, KY. They are Hollerwood Park and Boneyard Hollow Offroad. Permits are required to ride on these park properties. There is also the 98 mile loop of old county roads called the Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway. It is an amazing scenic trail for licensed OHV's.
